Net WPM
Definition
Net WPM is your typing speed adjusted for errors. It is calculated by subtracting one word (five characters) from your gross WPM for each uncorrected error. Net WPM is a more accurate measure of your useful typing output than gross WPM.
Why It Matters
A typist who types 80 gross WPM with 20 errors is producing less usable output than one who types 60 WPM with 0 errors. Net WPM captures this difference and is the figure that matters for professional typing requirements.
Example
Gross WPM: 75. Errors: 5. Net WPM: 75 − 5 = 70 WPM.
